ClinConnect Summary
The HIIT-PRO Kids trial is a study looking at how different types of exercise can help children with obesity. Specifically, it will compare two types of training: High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and a combination of HIIT plus plyometric exercises, which involve jumping and explosive movements. The goal is to see how these workouts affect the muscles, tendons, and overall metabolism in children at different stages of growth. The study will involve children aged 5 to 10 who have obesity, determined by their body weight in relation to their age and sex.
To participate, children must meet certain criteria, like having a higher than normal body mass index (BMI) and being at specific points in their growth development. Those with certain health conditions or who have exercised in a structured way recently won't be eligible. Participants will engage in the exercise programs three times a week for twelve weeks and undergo evaluations before and after the training to measure any changes. This study is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to provide valuable insights into effective exercise strategies for managing pediatric obesity.
