Cardioprotection Preconditioning Exercise Hemodialysis

ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at how exercising on a stationary bike before hemodialysis (a treatment for kidney failure) might help protect the heart. Researchers want to find out if this pre-dialysis exercise can reduce a temporary condition called "heart stunning," which is when the heart doesn't pump as strongly during the dialysis session. The study will also check if exercising beforehand can lessen common symptoms that patients experience during hemodialysis.

To be eligible for this trial, participants must be at least 18 years old and have been on hemodialysis for at least three months. They should be cleared by their doctor to exercise and must be able to give informed consent. However, people who regularly engage in vigorous exercise outside of their dialysis sessions, those over 79 years old, or individuals with certain heart conditions may not qualify. If you join the study, you can expect to cycle before your dialysis treatment and help researchers understand how exercise might benefit heart health during this important process.
