ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the cosmetic outcomes of different surgical techniques for repairing umbilical hernias in young patients. An umbilical hernia occurs when tissue pushes through an opening in the abdominal muscles near the belly button, and this trial will help understand how the appearance of the surgical scar may vary based on the method used. The study is open to children under 10 years old who have a small umbilical hernia—specifically, those that are 1.5 cm or smaller.
If your child is eligible and you decide to participate, they will receive one of the surgical techniques chosen randomly, and you will provide a photograph of the surgical area after healing for research purposes. The study will take place at CMH Adele Hall or CMHK between September 11, 2024, and September 11, 2025. This is a valuable opportunity to contribute to better understanding how to improve surgical outcomes for children with this condition.
