ClinConnect Summary

This study is testing a professional development program called ProDeveloP to help newly graduated nurses (NGNs) in central Sweden move into their new roles more smoothly. The program will be compared to a control group that did not receive ProDeveloP (the control group participated in the introduction program before the study). It uses a non-randomized, parallel design with two groups of NGNs (one cohort in 2023 and another in 2024) and follows participants over time to see how they do in real work settings. Key things the researchers are looking at as primary outcomes are how clearly NGNs understand their roles, how well they can perform their tasks, how accepted they feel in the team, how much they recover from work, and how stressed they feel. They will also look at secondary outcomes like job satisfaction and whether participants are thinking about leaving their job.

Who can join and what to expect: Eligible participants are registered nurses aged roughly 20 to 65 who are newly graduated and working in a county hospital in central Sweden. The NGNs in the ProDeveloP group will receive the program, which combines face-to-face peer learning and online learning, with trained nurse facilitators guiding regular reflection and learning activities. The control group consists of NGNs who took part in the introduction program before the study. Participants will complete questionnaires weekly for the first 13 weeks, with some measures repeated at 4, 8, and 12 months. The study has ethics approval, requires informed consent, and is currently enrolling by invitation; it’s coordinated by Mälardalen University in Västerås, Sweden. Data sharing outside the research team is not planned.
