ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a technique to prevent a serious complication called pancreatic fistula, which can happen after a specific surgery known as pancreatoduodenectomy (or Whipple procedure). Researchers want to find out if using a special device called a pancreatic stent during the surgery can help reduce the risk of developing this complication and to assess how well patients do in the long term after the surgery.
To be eligible for this trial, participants should be adults aged 65 to 74 who are having the Whipple procedure for reasons like pancreatic or ampullary cancer. They should also have a soft pancreas, which the surgeon will confirm during the operation. However, individuals with a hard pancreas or serious health issues that are not well controlled, as well as pregnant or breastfeeding women, cannot participate. Those who join the study can expect to be closely monitored for their recovery and how well the stent works over time. This research is important as it could lead to better outcomes for patients undergoing this complex surgery.
