ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of magnesium and ketamine on pain management for women undergoing a procedure called hysteroscopy, which allows doctors to look inside the uterus. Hysteroscopy can be painful, and while opioids like fentanyl have been commonly used to help manage this pain, they can have serious side effects. This trial aims to determine if giving magnesium intravenously can reduce pain and the need for opioids after the procedure, compared to ketamine, another pain relief option. Researchers hope to find a safer and more effective way to help patients feel comfortable during recovery.
To participate in the trial, women aged 18 and older who are scheduled for an elective hysteroscopy or dilation and curettage (D&C) may be eligible, provided they have certain health conditions that allow for safe participation. Excluded from the trial are patients with chronic pain or those currently taking certain medications. If you join the study, you will receive one of three treatments: intravenous magnesium, intravenous ketamine, or a placebo (a substance with no active medication). Your pain levels will be monitored during your hospital stay and through a follow-up call the next day, helping researchers understand how well these treatments work.
