ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is focused on creating and testing a new tool called the SMART-ACL scale, which stands for Simple Measure of Attitudes and Risk-Taking after ACL Reconstruction. The goal of this study is to better understand how patients feel about returning to sports and activities after having surgery for a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). While existing tools look at feelings of fear and hesitation, the SMART-ACL scale will also consider overconfidence and risk-taking behaviors. These factors are important because they can lead to patients returning to high-risk activities too soon, which might increase their chances of getting injured again.
To participate in this trial, individuals should have undergone ACL reconstruction surgery, either alone or along with other procedures on the knee. They also need to be part of a sports medicine follow-up program and provide informed consent. Participants in the study will help test the SMART-ACL scale to ensure it accurately identifies those who might be at risk of re-injury. This new tool aims to improve the care given to patients after their surgery and help them make safer decisions about when to return to sports.
