ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how serum ferritin levels, which is a protein that helps store iron in the body, relate to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) in patients. DKA is a serious condition that can occur in people with diabetes when their blood sugar levels get very high. The researchers want to see if the amount of ferritin in the blood can help understand how severe the DKA is when patients first come to the hospital and if it can predict how they might do in the short term after treatment.
To participate in this study, patients need to be 18 years or older and have either type 1 or type 2 diabetes with a confirmed diagnosis of DKA. However, certain individuals won't be eligible, such as those under 18, those with specific blood disorders or chronic infections, and patients with other serious health conditions like heart disease or cancer. If someone is eligible and joins the trial, they can expect to have their ferritin levels tested along with other routine evaluations to see how these levels relate to their DKA symptoms and recovery. This study is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to provide valuable insights into managing DKA better.
