ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Modulation of Cortical Brain Activity During Attentional Control," is studying how a special type of feedback, called sham neurofeedback, might help improve focus and attention in people dealing with conditions like chronic pain and fibromyalgia. The researchers want to see if using this feedback in a virtual reality setting can change certain brain activity patterns, specifically EEG alpha rhythms, which are related to how our attention is managed. Participants will experience three different scenarios: one where they receive positive feedback, one with negative feedback, and one without any feedback at all. By comparing these experiences, the study aims to understand if and how this feedback can help people enhance their attention.
To participate, individuals should be adults aged 18 to 60 years with normal or corrected vision and the ability to agree to take part in the study by signing a consent form. However, those with certain conditions, like epilepsy, significant hearing loss, current psychiatric illnesses, or who are pregnant, cannot join. Participants will wear a virtual reality headset and have their brain activity measured during the sessions, but they will first go through a pilot session to ensure they are comfortable with the equipment. This study is not yet recruiting, but it promises to explore new ways to help individuals struggling with focus and attention issues.
