ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how two different medications, propofol and ketamine, affect the heart and blood pressure during a procedure called intubation, which is when a tube is placed in the airway to help someone breathe. The researchers are particularly interested in whether these medications might lead to serious heart issues, like very low blood pressure or even cardiac arrest, in critically ill patients. Propofol can sometimes lower blood pressure significantly, while ketamine might be a safer option for maintaining heart stability.
To participate in this study, patients need to be over 18 years old and admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) for intubation. If someone is interested in joining, they should know that their health will be closely monitored, and their experiences will help doctors better understand which medication is safer for patients in critical condition. However, patients who can’t give consent, those intubated due to a cardiac arrest, or those intubated outside the ICU won't be eligible to participate. The goal of this research is to help improve care for critically ill patients by identifying the best medication choices during such important procedures.
