ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Investigation of Respiratory Functions, Thoracoabdominal Movements, and Exercise Capacity in Neuromuscular Diseases," is designed to understand how certain neuromuscular diseases affect breathing and physical activity in children. Specifically, it will compare the respiratory abilities and exercise capacities of children diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) to those of healthy children. The researchers will use a variety of tests, like breathing tests and walking assessments, to gather important information about how these conditions impact everyday activities.
To participate in this study, children must be at least 5 years old and able to breathe on their own. They should have a diagnosis of DMD or SMA, or be healthy with no neuromuscular disease. Some children may not be eligible if they have certain cognitive issues, a history of lung surgery, or advanced heart problems. The trial will take place at Lokman Hekim University from May 2024 to December 2025, and children who join can expect to undergo several tests to measure their respiratory function and exercise capacity in a supportive environment.
