ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is examining the best way to provide oxygen to burn patients who are deeply sedated. Patients with severe burns often experience intense pain, which requires strong pain relief medications. These medications can sometimes make it harder for patients to breathe, leading to low oxygen levels in their blood. The study is comparing two methods of delivering oxygen: the traditional nasal cannula, which provides a constant flow of oxygen, and High Flow Nasal Oxygen (HFNO), which delivers a higher amount of humidified oxygen at a faster rate. The goal is to see which method is more effective in keeping patients' oxygen levels stable while they are sedated.
To be eligible for this trial, participants must be adults over 18 years old, with a specific health status that allows for safe sedation. Individuals who are intubated (having a tube placed in their airway), have a tracheostomy (an opening made in the neck for breathing), need oxygen due to pre-existing conditions, or are pregnant cannot participate. If enrolled, participants will receive either the standard oxygen treatment or the high flow oxygen treatment while being monitored for their oxygen levels. This research could help improve care for burn patients who need sedation in the future.
