ClinConnect Summary
This study is testing a bronchoscopic treatment for endobronchial carcinoid tumors (tumb inside the airways). Doctors will use a technique called argon plasma coagulation (APC) through a small scope passed into the lungs to reduce and destroy the tumor without open surgery. It’s a single-group treatment study (no comparison group) and researchers are mainly looking to see if this approach helps breathing, assessed about one month after the procedure.
People who may be eligible are adults 18 and older with an endobronchial carcinoid that is inside the airway and who are either unwilling or not suitable for surgery, and who can safely undergo fiberoptic bronchoscopy. Exclusions include very poor overall health, inability to have bronchoscopy, tumors that extend outside the airway, having a pacemaker, or limited lung function. The procedure is performed at Alexandria University in Egypt, and the study is currently enrolling by invitation with about 40 participants planned.
