ClinConnect Summary
The OPErA trial is studying how the way musicians hold their instruments affects their health and ability to perform. Over the next three years, researchers will observe 250 professional musicians from major orchestras in Italy, assessing their posture while playing different instruments. Participants will first fill out a questionnaire about their lifestyle, work habits, and any health issues, including past pain or conditions like scoliosis. Then, the researchers will evaluate their posture in two parts: first without the instrument and then while playing.
To help with this assessment, special electrodes will be placed on the skin to track their posture, and a system will take pictures to measure any differences in posture between the left and right sides of the body. This information will help identify any risks for pain or injuries related to playing music and may lead to better prevention and treatment strategies for musicians in the future. Professional musicians from major orchestras can participate, but those with recent injuries will not be eligible.
