ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how effective a specially designed weight loss program is for overweight adolescents. The researchers believe that using different ways to communicate and support these young people—like face-to-face meetings, phone calls, and text messages—will help them lose more weight compared to a standard program. The study will involve 279 students from eight colleges, with half receiving the tailored support and the other half getting basic information. The main goal is to see if those in the tailored group lose more weight over five months.
To be eligible, students need to be in their first or second year of college and have a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher, which indicates they are overweight. However, those with certain health conditions, mental health issues, or who are on medications that cause weight gain cannot participate. Participants can expect a variety of supportive activities designed to help them change their behaviors for better health. This trial is important because it aims to find out if personalized support can make a real difference in weight loss for adolescents, a group that often struggles with obesity.
