ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying two different guidelines, PECARN and NICE, to see which one is better at identifying serious brain injuries in children who have experienced head trauma. The goal is to find a way to detect any internal injuries while also reducing the number of CT scans, which expose children to radiation. The PECARN guidelines have shown to be very accurate in identifying potential issues, while the NICE guidelines also help limit unnecessary scans but with slightly less accuracy.
To participate in this study, children under 16 years old who have had a head injury and are candidates for a CT scan may be eligible. However, children who are too unstable to undergo a CT scan will not be included. If a child is part of the trial, they can expect to be assessed using these guidelines in an emergency department setting to see which is more effective in ensuring their safety and health. This study aims to improve how we evaluate head injuries in children, helping to make emergency care safer and more efficient.
