ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of a pain relief method called thoracic epidural anesthesia (TEA) on heart function after thoracic surgery. TEA involves placing a small tube in the back to deliver medication that blocks pain signals, which can also affect the heart's ability to pump blood. The researchers want to see how this anesthesia impacts the left side of the heart using a special ultrasound technique called strain echocardiography that provides detailed information about heart function.
To participate in this trial, individuals must be between 18 and 75 years old and scheduled for elective surgery with a low to moderate risk (classified as ASA I-III). However, people with certain conditions, such as infections at the injection site or those on ongoing opioid medications, will not be eligible. Those who join the study can expect to undergo heart monitoring before and after the surgery to better understand how TEA affects heart performance. It's important to know that this trial is not yet actively recruiting participants.
