ClinConnect Summary
The GEM trial is studying how a video educational tool can help pregnant patients feel more confident when deciding about prenatal genetic testing, which checks for certain genetic conditions in the baby. Participants in the trial will either watch the video or receive standard prenatal care and then complete surveys to share their thoughts and experiences. The researchers want to understand how the video affects their decision-making, understanding of genetic testing, communication with healthcare providers, and privacy concerns regarding genetic information.
To take part in this trial, you should be at least 18 years old, able to speak English or Spanish, and in the early stages of a single pregnancy (under 24 weeks). You should not have received any genetic screening results or counseling during this pregnancy. If you join, you will answer some questions about your knowledge of genetics and your feelings about testing before and after seeing your healthcare provider. The trial is currently looking for participants, and your experience could help improve how future patients understand and make decisions about prenatal genetic testing.
