ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a condition called hyponatremia, which occurs when sodium levels in the blood are dangerously low. Hyponatremia can lead to serious health issues, including swelling of the brain, which can cause symptoms like confusion, seizures, and even coma. The trial aims to understand how many patients with severe symptoms already have brain swelling when they arrive at the emergency department and whether they develop a serious complication known as osmotic demyelination syndrome (ODS) during their hospital stay. By gathering this information, researchers hope to improve treatment guidelines for patients with profound hyponatremia.
To participate in this study, you must be an adult aged 18 or older and have a sodium level of 125 mmol/L or lower when you first arrive at the emergency department. If you join the trial, you can expect to undergo a series of assessments, including follow-up blood tests to monitor your sodium levels. The study is currently recruiting participants, and your involvement could help doctors better understand how to safely manage hyponatremia and its associated risks.
