ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is studying a medication called dexmedetomidine to see how it can help manage pain for children undergoing surgery for idiopathic scoliosis, which is a condition that causes an abnormal curve of the spine. The researchers want to find out how long the pain relief lasts when dexmedetomidine is used alongside a specific type of regional anesthesia called an erector spinae plane block. This trial is designed for children aged 10 to 18 who are scheduled for this type of surgery.

To participate in the trial, children must be between the ages of 10 and 18 and have surgery planned for idiopathic scoliosis. However, there are some reasons why a child may not be eligible, such as if they are younger than 10, have an infection where the anesthesia would be applied, or have certain health conditions. If your child joins the study, they will receive the dexmedetomidine during their surgery, and the researchers will monitor how well it helps with pain management afterward. It's important to note that the trial is not yet recruiting participants, so there will be more information available when it starts.
