ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating two different methods of pain relief for women who are having mastectomy surgery due to breast cancer. The study aims to compare the effectiveness of two types of nerve blocks—serratus posterior superior intercostal plane block and thoracic paravertebral block—in managing pain after surgery. These nerve blocks can help reduce the need for opioid pain medications, which can have side effects and risks. By improving pain control, the goal is to enhance the overall recovery experience for patients.
To participate in this study, women aged 18 to 80 years who are generally healthy (with a lower American Society of Anesthesiologists score) and have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18 and 30 may be eligible. Unfortunately, those with certain health conditions, very high or low BMIs, or who are outside the age range will not be included. Participants can expect to receive one of the pain management techniques during their surgery and will be monitored afterward to see how well it works for controlling their pain. This research aims to find the best way to help women recover more comfortably after their surgery.
