ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring how lidocaine, a medication commonly used for pain relief, affects the monitoring of nerve signals during spine surgery. The goal is to see if giving lidocaine through an IV (infusion) can help doctors better track the function of the nerves while the surgery is happening. This is important because it can help ensure that the surgery is safe and effective.
To participate in this trial, you would need to be between the ages of 65 and 74 and scheduled for certain types of spine surgeries, specifically for the neck or lower back. However, you wouldn’t be eligible if you can't understand English well enough to give consent, are pregnant, have a reason that prevents you from using lidocaine, or if you are going to be put on a breathing machine after surgery. If you join the study, you can expect to receive treatment as part of your surgery, and researchers will closely monitor how the lidocaine affects your nerve signals during the procedure. This study aims to improve care for patients undergoing spine surgery.
