ClinConnect Summary
The Little NIRVANA for Pediatric Pain and Anxiety trial is designed to see if a special tool called Little NIRVANA, which uses augmented reality (AR), can help reduce pain and anxiety in children aged 2 to 8 years old during a medical procedure where a small tube is placed in a vein (called peripheral intravenous or PIV insertion) in the emergency department. The study will compare the effects of using Little NIRVANA along with a numbing cream to just using the cream alone. Researchers want to find out if this method can make the experience less stressful for kids without causing longer wait times or complications.
To participate in this trial, children must be between 2 and 8 years old and need to have a PIV line placed while in the emergency department. However, children who do not speak English or Dutch, or those whose doctors believe using AR would not be suitable due to their health condition, will not be eligible. The trial has not started recruiting participants yet, but it aims to provide a more comfortable experience for young patients undergoing this common procedure in emergency settings.
