Vestibular Disorders Vestibular Rehabilitation Dual Task Exercises Quality Of Life Gait

ClinConnect Summary

This study is testing whether adding Dual Task Training to vestibular rehabilitation helps people with vestibular disorders improve their balance, walking, and overall quality of life more than vestibular rehabilitation with traditional physical therapy alone. It is a randomized trial, meaning people are assigned by chance to one of two groups, and neither the participants nor the people giving the outcome assessments know which group a person is in. Each participant will have an 8-week treatment course, with sessions 5 days a week for 1 hour, overseen by a physical therapist.

To be eligible, adults aged 40–65 who have had dizziness for more than 3 months, have had at least one dizzy spell per month, and at least one fall in the last 6 months, and who have a vestibular disorder diagnosed by an ENT doctor, may participate (MMSE must be greater than 24). People with Meniere disease or bilateral vestibular disorders, certain brain or psychiatric conditions, significant visual problems, dizziness from other causes or medications, movement limits, or who cannot consent are not eligible. About 30 participants are planned, all at Fatima Memorial Hospital in Lahore, Pakistan. The study will look at balance and gait tests (Timed Up and Go; Dynamic Gait Index) and quality-of-life questions (Vestibular Rehabilitation Benefit Questionnaire and Dizziness Handicap Inventory) at around 8 weeks.
