ClinConnect Summary
The Peer to Peer (P2P) trial is studying how peer support can help people in rural areas who are dealing with both substance use disorders and mental health issues, like anxiety and depression. These mental health symptoms can make it hard for individuals to get the help they need for recovery. The trial offers support services that include regular check-ins with a nurse and a social worker, who will assess the participants' substance use and overall health. Participants will also receive guidance from a certified peer support specialist who will lead weekly therapy sessions and additional support meetings over a period of up to 12 weeks.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be at least 18 years old, have a diagnosed opioid use disorder, and be receiving medication for their condition for at least three months. They should also be experiencing moderate to severe depression, with or without anxiety. However, individuals with severe cognitive or medical issues, those unable to read or speak English, or anyone currently having thoughts of suicide cannot participate. This trial is currently recruiting participants, and it aims to connect individuals with long-term mental health resources to support their recovery journey.
