ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at what happens to patients' body temperatures after they undergo a tracheostomy, which is a procedure where a hole is made in the neck to help with breathing. It's common for patients to have an increased body temperature within the first 24 hours after this surgery, and sometimes doctors perform tests and start antibiotic treatments to check for infections, known as sepsis. This study aims to see how often this fever occurs after tracheostomy and whether it really means that the patient is developing an infection.

To be eligible for this study, patients need to have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) between January 2020 and January 2025 and have undergone a tracheostomy during their stay. The trial is still in the planning stages and hasn't started recruiting participants yet. If included, patients will not have to do anything extra; researchers will look back at their medical records to gather information. This study will help doctors understand if the fever after tracheostomy is a sign of infection or just a normal reaction, which could change how they treat these patients in the future.
