ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking for ways to help children aged 6 to 11 years sleep better, which can also help prevent obesity. The study compares two methods: one group of families will work closely with a nurse to learn effective strategies for improving their child’s sleep, while the other group will receive educational materials about the importance of good sleep. Families in the study will either meet with a nurse six times or get six handouts, and they will participate in assessments at the start of the study, at two months, and at six months. During these assessments, children will wear devices to track their sleep and activity, while families will record their child’s food intake on two different days and measure their height and weight.
To join the study, children must be patients at Temple Pediatrics, be between the ages of 6 and 11, and typically get less than 9 hours of sleep each night. Their weight should be higher than the 10th percentile but lower than the 95th percentile for their age and sex. Parents should be at least 18 years old and willing to participate. It's important to note that children with diagnosed sleep disorders or certain medical conditions that affect sleep or weight are not eligible to join the study. This research could help families understand how improving sleep may lead to healthier weights for their children.
