ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at two different ways to prevent urinary tract infections (UTIs) in women who are having a specific surgery called a mid-urethral sling procedure. This surgery helps treat stress urinary incontinence, a condition that affects many women. The trial will compare the use of antibiotics, which are commonly prescribed after surgery, to a medication called methenamine, which is suggested as a possible alternative to help reduce the risk of UTIs.
To participate in this study, women must be at least 18 years old and planning to undergo the mid-urethral sling procedure. However, certain conditions might disqualify someone from joining, such as having a current UTI, being pregnant or breastfeeding, or experiencing certain health issues. Participants will receive either the antibiotic or methenamine after their surgery for a short period and will be monitored for any differences in UTI occurrences. This study is especially important as it seeks to find ways to limit antibiotic use, which can lead to problems like antibiotic resistance.
