ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, called the Simethicone Protocol, is studying whether simethicone (often sold as Gas Relief or Gas-X) can help reduce gas pain and bloating in patients who are undergoing certain types of stomach surgeries, including bariatric procedures like sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass. The goal is to determine how safe and effective simethicone is for these patients after their surgeries. Simethicone is already approved by the FDA for relieving gas and bloating, but this study aims to gather more information about its use in surgical patients.
To participate in the trial, individuals must be having a foregut procedure, which involves surgeries related to the upper part of the digestive system. Unfortunately, people who are allergic to simethicone, pregnant or breastfeeding, or under 18 years old will not be eligible. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but once it begins, those who qualify can expect to take simethicone and provide feedback on how it affects their post-surgery gas pain and bloating. This research could help improve comfort and outcomes for patients undergoing these types of surgeries in the future.
