ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating how different doses of a medication called prucalopride can help improve bowel function after elective colorectal surgery. After such surgeries, many patients experience a condition called postoperative ileus, which can cause uncomfortable symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and difficulty passing gas or stool. The trial aims to find out if a higher dose of prucalopride (4 mg) can speed up recovery and reduce the time spent in the hospital compared to standard doses and a placebo (a pill with no active medication).
To be eligible for this trial, participants need to be planning to have elective colorectal surgery, such as procedures to remove parts of the colon or rectum. However, people who are having emergency surgeries, certain types of extensive surgeries, or have specific health issues will not be included. If you or a family member are interested in joining, you can expect to receive different doses of prucalopride during your recovery, and the study will help researchers understand how effective this treatment is in helping patients bounce back after surgery.
