ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a surgical procedure called CMC arthroplasty, which is used to treat arthritis in the thumb joint. The goal of the trial is to find out if formal occupational therapy, which helps patients regain hand function after surgery, improves recovery compared to those who do not receive this therapy. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but it aims to include adults over 18 years old who are scheduled for this type of surgery and can understand English well enough to give their consent.
If you or someone you know is considering participating in this trial, you should know that it is specifically looking for patients who are having their first CMC arthroplasty, not those needing a second surgery or those with certain other hand injuries. Participants can expect to be part of a randomized group, meaning they may receive either the therapy or not, and the results will help doctors understand the best ways to support recovery after thumb joint surgery. This study could provide valuable insights into improving care for people with thumb arthritis.
