ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at how calcium treatment might help patients who are experiencing massive bleeding due to trauma. The researchers want to see if giving calcium can improve the care of these patients when they receive blood transfusions. In this study, patients at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, who are part of the Massive Hemorrhage Protocol (a set of steps to manage severe bleeding) will be randomly chosen to receive either calcium gluconate (a type of calcium supplement) or a placebo (a harmless substance with no active ingredients) every time they get four units of red blood cells.
To participate in this trial, you must be an adult trauma patient receiving treatment for severe bleeding at the hospital. Unfortunately, individuals under 18 years old or those who are pregnant cannot take part. While the study is not yet recruiting participants, those who join will contribute to important research that could help improve treatment for future trauma patients experiencing massive hemorrhage.
