ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is designed to explore how common temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) are among wind musicians, such as those who play woodwind and brass instruments. TMD can cause pain and discomfort in the jaw, and the study will look at whether different types of instruments, as well as factors like how musicians hold their instruments and how long they practice, might affect the risk of developing these disorders. The trial will include both professional and student musicians from orchestras and conservatories.
If you are a wind musician, you may be eligible to participate, regardless of your age, as long as you have consent from a parent or guardian if you are under 18. To take part, you will need to agree to the study and provide informed consent. However, individuals who have had certain jaw surgeries, have neurological issues that impact jaw movement, have recently treated TMD, or have severe teeth grinding (bruxism) will not be included in the study. Participants can expect to share their experiences and may help researchers better understand the challenges wind musicians face related to jaw health.
