ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is looking at ways to prevent dehydration and hospital readmissions in patients who are having an ileostomy, which is a surgical procedure that creates an opening in the abdomen to help with waste removal after colorectal surgery. Researchers want to see how well a specific scoring system, called the DRIP score, is used at different hospitals in Italy. The study will track how many patients use this scoring system and follow its guidelines to help them stay healthy after their surgery.
To be part of this trial, patients must be over 18 years old and scheduled for an elective ileostomy due to benign or malignant (cancer) colorectal conditions. Those who have emergency surgeries or different types of ostomies won't be included. Participants can expect to be monitored for up to six months after their surgery to see if using the DRIP score helps reduce the chances of dehydration and the need to return to the hospital. This study is important because it aims to improve care and outcomes for patients who undergo this type of surgery.
