ClinConnect Summary
This is an observational study at Hacettepe University in Ankara, Turkey, that will look at how well the upper body (shoulder, elbow, and wrist) works in boys with hemophilia compared with healthy peers. About 30 male children with Hemophilia A or B will be evaluated over roughly one year. The main thing they’re measuring is the Hemophilia Joint Health Score (HJHS), which checks joint pain, swelling, movement, and overall joint function. They’ll also measure muscle strength using a handheld device called a Lafayette dynamometer, to see how strong the arm muscles are.
Who can participate: boys aged 7 to 17 with Hemophilia A or B who are on regular preventive treatment and do not have inhibitors to clotting factors at enrollment. Healthy children may participate as a comparison group. Exclusion criteria include current elbow bleeding, a history of certain upper-arm or elbow joint problems, or specific joint surgeries. Participants will have study visits to assess joint health, muscle strength, and daily living activities. The study is currently enrolling by invitation and is expected to wrap up around 2026, with results intended to help guide physical therapy and rehabilitation for children with hemophilia.
