ClinConnect Summary
The VentilO Prospective Study is a research trial that aims to compare two different ways of setting up breathing support for patients who are on mechanical ventilation after heart surgery. The study will look at how often patients develop a condition called respiratory acidosis, which happens when the body has too much carbon dioxide and not enough oxygen. One group of patients will have their breathing settings chosen by their doctors, while another group will use recommendations from a special app called VentilO. The main goal is to see if using the app leads to better breathing outcomes.
To participate in this study, you need to be an adult over 18 years old who has just undergone heart surgery and is intubated (meaning a tube is placed in your airway to help you breathe) in the intensive care unit. However, if your breathing is mostly natural when you arrive or if you have not provided necessary height and weight details, you won't be eligible. Participants can expect to be monitored closely as their breathing settings are adjusted, and the study will help improve future care for patients needing mechanical ventilation.
