ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how paying attention to certain sensations might change the way our bodies respond to a placebo, which is a treatment that has no active effect, like a sugar pill or a drink that doesn’t contain any medicine. The researchers want to see if focusing our attention in specific ways can enhance or alter the placebo effect. To do this, they will recruit 128 healthy adults who will cycle on a stationary bike for about an hour. During the workout, their attention will be guided in different ways, and they will receive a drink that is advertised as "highly stimulating." There will also be a smaller group of 32 participants who will cycle without the drink or special attention guidance to compare results.
To be eligible for the study, participants must be at least 18 years old and in good health, which will be confirmed with a medical certificate. They should be prepared to visit a gym for the sessions. Those with certain health conditions, like heart or respiratory issues, or who are allergic to caffeine, cannot participate. Everyone will have their heart rate, emotions, and feelings of tiredness monitored throughout the study. This research aims to deepen our understanding of how our minds and bodies interact and could have important implications for treatments in the future.
