ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring a new way to help people with nonfluent aphasia, which is a language disorder often caused by a stroke. The study is testing a technique called "mirror speech entrainment," where participants practice speaking using a digitally altered version of their own voice, created with artificial intelligence. This method is compared to the traditional approach where patients speak along with a therapist's voice. The main goal is to see if using a person's own voice helps them improve their speech better than the standard method.
To participate in this study, individuals must be adults aged 18 to 70 who primarily speak English and have aphasia resulting from a left hemisphere stroke. Unfortunately, those with aphasia due to other conditions like dementia or significant language understanding difficulties cannot participate. Participants will receive a smartphone with a special app to carry out their speech practice at home, making it convenient and comfortable. The trial has not yet started recruiting participants, but it aims to provide valuable insights into new ways to support speech recovery for those affected by aphasia.
