ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying the effects of a special supplement that combines inulin and Lactobacillus acidophilus on brain function in older adults with type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes can lead to high blood sugar levels and may cause problems with thinking and memory. The goal of this study is to see if this supplement can help improve cognitive function, which means how well people think, remember, and learn. Researchers believe that improving the balance of bacteria in the gut can positively affect brain health.
To participate in the trial, individuals must be between 60 and 90 years old and diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, along with some level of cognitive impairment. Participants will be divided into two groups: one will receive the actual supplement, while the other will receive a placebo (a harmless pill with no active ingredients) for 8 weeks. After this phase, they will switch groups. Throughout the study, researchers will monitor participants' cognitive abilities and gut health. This study is important because if the supplement proves effective, it could offer a simple, non-drug option for people with diabetes to help protect their brain function.
