ClinConnect Summary

This clinical trial is looking at a condition called achalasia, which affects how the esophagus moves food down into the stomach. Achalasia can lead to problems like reflux, where stomach acid flows back into the esophagus, causing irritation and damage. The trial aims to compare the types of damage in the esophagus after a specific treatment called per-oral endoscopic myotomy (POEM) in people with achalasia versus those without any esophageal movement disorders. By gathering information on participants' symptoms, treatments, and endoscopic findings, researchers hope to better understand how achalasia and its treatment affect the esophagus.

To take part in this study, individuals need to be at least 18 years old, have a confirmed diagnosis of achalasia, and show signs of esophagitis (inflammation or damage in the esophagus) during an endoscopy (a procedure where a doctor looks inside the esophagus). Participants will fill out questionnaires about their symptoms and undergo follow-up evaluations three months after the POEM procedure. This trial is currently recruiting participants and is open to all genders, so if you or someone you know might fit the criteria, it could be an opportunity to contribute to important research in understanding esophageal diseases.
