ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial, titled "Cleaning the Biopsy Needle in TRUS Bx," is studying how cleaning the biopsy needle used in prostate cancer tests can help reduce the risk of infections. Prostate cancer is a common condition in men, and the standard way to diagnose it is through a procedure called a transrectal ultrasound-guided biopsy (TRUS Bx). This procedure involves taking a small tissue sample from the prostate, but it can sometimes lead to infections due to bacteria from the rectum entering the urinary system. The trial will compare different cleaning methods for the biopsy needle—using isopropyl alcohol, povidone iodine, and formalin—against the standard cleaning process to see which is most effective in preventing infections.
To participate in this study, patients should be cooperative, not have an active urinary tract infection, and not have any bleeding disorders. They should also be willing to give consent for the study. The trial is not yet recruiting participants, but it is open to all men who meet the eligibility criteria. Participants can expect to undergo the biopsy procedure with the added step of a cleaned needle, which aims to make the process safer by reducing the chances of infection. This research could lead to better practices in diagnosing prostate cancer, ultimately helping many patients.
