ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is investigating a new way to improve safety and effectiveness during chest surgeries, specifically when only one lung is used for ventilation. To help surgeons see better while they operate, a small amount of carbon dioxide is introduced into the space between the lung and the chest wall, a procedure known as capnothorax. The goal is to measure the pressure in the esophagus, which helps us understand how well the lungs are working and to adjust the ventilation settings accordingly. This technique aims to provide the right amount of air to the lungs, reduce the risk of lung damage, and improve breathing during and after the surgery.
To participate in this study, individuals must be over 18 years old and scheduled for robotic thoracic surgery that will use capnothorax. However, those with certain heart or lung conditions, or who have severe respiratory issues, may not be eligible. Participants can expect to have some basic health information collected beforehand, as well as detailed measurements during the surgery to monitor their respiratory function and overall health. This research aims to enhance patient safety and improve recovery after surgery.
