ClinConnect Summary
The Iowa Produce Prescription Program is a study looking at how a special program that provides fresh fruits and vegetables, combined with nutrition education, can help people with type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes improve their health. The study wants to find out if this program makes a difference in nutrition and health compared to just receiving nutrition education or the usual care people get for their health conditions.
To participate, you need to be at least 18 years old, diagnosed with pre-diabetes or diabetes by a doctor, and receiving assistance through Medicaid or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). If you join, you'll receive monthly nutrition education videos that cover topics like grocery planning and healthy recipes. If you're in the group receiving the produce prescription, you’ll also get $30 each month to buy fresh fruits and vegetables. This study is not yet recruiting participants, but it's a great opportunity for eligible individuals to gain access to healthy food and learn more about nutrition.
