Hand Injuries Shoulder Diagnostic Ultrasonography

ClinConnect Summary

This study looks at whether people who come in for hand injury rehab also have problems in the shoulder. It’s an observational, case-control study that will compare two groups: those with shoulder symptoms and normal shoulders after hand injury. Around 60 adults (ages 18–65) who are seeking hand rehab at Ankara Training and Research Hospital in Turkey will be invited to participate. The aim is to use ultrasound to check the shoulder and see if shoulder issues are common alongside hand injuries, which could affect how rehabilitation is planned.

If you participate and are eligible, you’ll have a joint assessment of your hand and shoulder. A diagnostic ultrasound of the shoulder will be done if shoulder symptoms or exam findings are present. Researchers will track outcomes over up to about 12 weeks, including: pain levels (0–10 scale), how much you can move your hand and shoulder, grip strength, and a 13-question Shoulder Pain and Disability Index. Exclusions include people under 18 or over 65, those with certain medical conditions like diabetes or rheumatic disease, a history of shoulder problems before the hand injury, or other upper-extremity injuries. This study is not a drug or device trial, and results are intended to help determine whether shoulder care should be part of hand injury rehabilitation.
