ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring how the bacteria present in the vagina may affect the chances of developing an infection after a cesarean section (C-section). The main goal is to see if certain types of bacteria or the overall diversity of bacteria in the vagina can help predict whether a woman might experience a wound infection after her C-section. This study will involve pregnant women who are planning to have a C-section, either for medical reasons or by choice, and will look at samples from them before and after the surgery.
To participate, women need to be expecting a single baby and be at least 37 weeks pregnant. Those who have taken antibiotics in the two weeks leading up to their delivery, have a weakened immune system, or have certain infections will not be eligible. Participants will provide vaginal swab samples and will receive standard care and follow-up after their surgery. The study aims to gather important information about their health, including their use of antibiotics and any other health conditions, to help understand the relationship between vaginal bacteria and post-surgery wound infections.
