ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying a new computer program that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to help doctors quickly and accurately read chest X-rays. The focus is on identifying problems such as misplaced breathing tubes (endotracheal and nasogastric tubes) and a condition called pneumothorax, where air leaks into the space around the lungs. The goal is to see if this AI system can improve patient care in emergency and critical care settings by making it easier for healthcare providers to spot these issues, potentially leading to shorter hospital stays and lower healthcare costs.
To be eligible for this study, participants must be adults who need a chest X-ray due to either having a breathing tube inserted or being on a ventilator, which could put them at risk for pneumothorax. Patients in isolation wards or those in infant intensive care units will not be included. If a participating unit agrees to join the study, healthcare providers there will have access to the AI tool to help interpret the X-rays, while other units will continue with their usual procedures. The trial is expected to start collecting data in January 2025 and will run until December 2027, aiming to see how well the AI system performs in real-world situations.
