ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is studying how different ways of giving the antibiotic colistin can affect patients with serious infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria. Colistin is often used as a last resort for infections that do not respond to other antibiotics, but it can sometimes cause side effects, particularly affecting the kidneys. The trial aims to find out whether a fixed dose or a dose based on a patient’s weight is more effective and safer, especially for patients in intensive care units (ICUs).
To participate in this trial, individuals must be at least 18 years old and currently receiving treatment with colistin for their infections while being admitted to the ICU. Some people will not be eligible, such as those who are pregnant or have certain medical conditions. Participants will receive either the fixed or weight-based dose of colistin and will be monitored for how well the treatment works and for any side effects. This important research could help improve treatment strategies for critically ill patients facing tough infections.
