ClinConnect Summary
This clinical trial is exploring how monitoring the depth of anesthesia affects the recovery and mental functions of older patients (65 years and older) undergoing surgery for conditions like herniated discs. The goal is to see if keeping a close eye on anesthesia levels can help improve recovery and reduce issues like confusion after surgery, known as postoperative delirium. Throughout the study, important health measurements such as blood pressure, heart rate, and brain activity will be taken in a non-invasive and painless way.
To participate in this study, you need to be at least 65 years old and scheduled for elective spinal surgery. You should be in generally good health (classified as ASA status I-III) and able to give your consent to join the trial. If you have severe health issues, a history of mental confusion or dementia, or need emergency surgery, you won’t be eligible. If you decide to take part, you can expect a thorough pre-surgery evaluation and continuous monitoring during your operation, all aimed at ensuring your safety and improving your recovery experience.
