ClinConnect Summary
The SCORE! ACTIVE Trial is a research study designed to help newcomer families in Hamilton, Ontario, particularly those with young children, access healthy activities that promote physical fitness. The goal of the trial is to see how providing better access to these activities can change how children view physical activity and whether it encourages them to be more active. This study is particularly important because newcomer families may not have the same resources as those who have lived in Canada longer.
To participate, families need to meet certain criteria. They must have at least one child between the ages of 5 and 11 and have been in Canada for 10 years or less. Additionally, at least one parent or guardian should have been born outside of Canada. However, children who are already involved in organized sports or activities three times a week or families involved with child protection services cannot join the trial. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in various healthy activities and share their experiences, helping researchers understand how to support newcomer children in being more active.
