ClinConnect Summary
This is an observational study conducted in Turkey to see whether the preoperative anesthesia interview affects how anxious patients feel before surgery and how satisfied they are with the process. Researchers will look at adults aged 16 to 85 who are planning elective (non-emergency) surgery and are coming to the anesthesia clinic. They will measure anxiety before and after the preoperative interview using three simple scales (STAI, APAIS, and a 0–100 anxiety scale) and will also ask about overall satisfaction with the preoperative visit.
Eligible participants include adults 16–85 with ASA I–III (meaning they’re generally healthy to moderately sick), who can speak the local language, can consent, and are scheduled for elective surgery. Exclusions include emergency cases, ASA IV patients, anyone with mental or psychiatric disorders, those who can’t understand the language, or people with a history of sedative drug use. The study plans to enroll about 500 people and is currently enrolling by invitation, at Kanuni Sultan Suleyman Training and Research Hospital in Istanbul. Results have not been reported yet.
